Tyre Nichols death: 5 former Memphis police officers face 2nd-degree murder, other charges | FULL



Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy on Thursday said a grand jury has handed down indictments against five former Memphis police officers for the killing of Tyre Nichols, a 29-year-old Black man, who died in hospital days after a violent traffic stop on Jan. 7.

Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, Desmond Mills, Jr., Emmitt Martin III and Justin Smith, all of whom are Black, each face charges of second-degree murder, aggravated assault, aggravated kidnapping, official misconduct and official oppression.

Mulroy said that police video of the traffic stop, in which Nichols’ family says the 29-year-old was savagely beaten for three minutes, would be released to the public on Friday.
