Chinese Livestream Queen Fined $210 Million | Clear Perspective



On December 21, Dr. Charles Lieber, former Chair of Harvard University’s Chemistry and Chemical Biology Department, was convicted by a federal jury for lying to the US government about his affiliation with China’s Thousand Talents Program and the Wuhan University of Technology (WUT), as well as failing to report income he received from China. The US Department of Justice filed charges against him in January 2020.

Viya, a famous Chinese live-streaming shopping influencer, was fined a huge amount of money for alleged tax evasion. Last month, two other live-stream hosts were also fined millions for alleged tax evasion. Some suggest that Viya’s case is just one of the many sacrifices under the “common prosperity” political movement.
